Kleen Energy will be conducting cleaning of their heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) during their planned outage, which starts today October 3, 2023. The cleaning will be conducted in completely enclosed portions of the plant. The cleaning will be accomplished using a Pressure Wave Technology, which cleans the HRSGs with a series of shock waves using a finely controlled gas mixture to gradually remove deposits and fouling from affected surfaces. During this process, air horns will sounds to alert plant personnel of the cleaning process, and the sound of the target area being cleaned by the shock pulses of detonated gases may be heard. These are the normal sounds associated with the Pressure Wave Technology cleaning process. As a courtesy, Middletown Police, the South Fire District and the Portland Police/Fire Departments have been notified of the cleaning activities, which are expected to occur over the next 2-4 days. The cleaning will only take place during the day shift.

This morning at approximately 11:50 AM, a fire was observed on Combustion Turbine #2. The turbine was brought offline and the fire suppression system was activated. The South Fire District responded to the event and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries among first responders or plant personnel. The cause of the event is under investigation

Kleen Energy will be conducting emissions testing at the plant today, April 1, 2021. This will necessitate the venting of steam, which may result in elevated noise levels and visible steam plumes. This testing is required once every five years per the facility’s CT DEEP air permit. As a courtesy, Middletown Police, the South Fire District and the Portland Police/Fire Departments have been notified of the test program as well. The testing will be conducted between approximately 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. This test is a re-schedule for the February 26, 2021 test noted below.

Kleen Energy will be conducting emissions testing at the plant today, February 26, 2021. This will necessitate the venting of steam, which may result in elevated noise levels and visible steam plumes. This testing is required once every five years per the facility’s CT DEEP air permit. As a courtesy, Middletown Police and the South Fire District have been notified of the test program as well. The testing will be conducted between approximately 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

This morning at approximately 5:30 AM, smoke and a smoldering fire was observed on the roof of a small building attached to the main structure. The plant was not generating electricity at the time. The South Fire District responded to the event and completed their primary activities on site at around 8:00 AM. There were no injuries among first responders or plant personnel. The cause of the event is under investigation.
